The duties of the Public Works Department include the mowing of
road
sides, sidewalk repair and replacement, drainage, sign maintenance,
street sweeping and pothole repairs. The department currently has 182
streets of which inventory is kept of city streets and each streets
condition. Every street is prioritized and resurfaced as soon as
possible.
The Public Works Department includes a team of thirteen workers. Nine
of these workers are full-time and four part-time. The part-time
employees work during the Summer season only. The department is
responsible for maintaining City owned streets and right-of ways.
Other duties of the department include snow removal, maintenance of all
city vehicles and equipment, mowing and trimming of all parks, walking
trails and city buildings. The department also provides the City of
Kingston neighborhoods with brush pick-up twice per year, once in the
spring and once in the fall. The time of these pick-ups will be posted
here on the web site and also in the Roane County Newspaper.
