Police Chief Jim Washam began working for the Kingston Police Department on March 31, 1987 and graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy, in 1988. He is also a 2003 graduate of Leadership of Roane County. He was promoted to Investigator in 1994, to the rank of Sergeant in 1996, to Lieutenant in 1997, to Assistant Chief of Police in 1999, and to the position of Chief of Police in July 2000. Chief Washam has attended over 35 specialized schools including FBI, TBI, Homeland Security, and Department of Justice training programs. Chief Washam was appointed to the Meth Task Force by Governor Phil Bredesen in 2004 and helped bring the meth laws to legislation. He is currently the Chairman of the Regional Swat Committee, serves on the Safe Schools for Roane County Committee, an active member of the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police and served as past appointee to the Financial Oversight, Homeland Security and Ethics Committees for the East Tennessee Region. Chief Washam is married to Lisa, and they have 4 children. Chris, who attends Roane County High School and triplet girls, Tara, Maleah, and Savannah, who attend Kingston Elementary School. They are members of Edgewood Baptist Church where Chief Washam serves as a Deacon and is active on the Building Committee. He is dedicated to safety in our schools, the war on drugs, maintaining a family oriented community, and keeping Kingston a safe place for all to live. |

| The Kingston Police Department consists of 12 full time Officers, 2 part-time Officers and 12 reserve Officers. Currently the Reserve unit is active, riding with full time Police Officers, supporting and attending special events, football games and as needed to assist the Police Officers. The Fourth of July event in Kingston would be virtually impossible without the help of the Kingston Reserve Unit. |
