Fire Chief and Building Inspector Willie Gordon came to the City of
Kingston as Park Officer in 1995. He transferred to the Fire Department
when an opening came available as a Fireman. In 1996 he was promoted to
Captain and in 1998 to Assistant Chief. Willie became Fire Chief in
June of 2000 and the job of Building Inspector was added to his duties
in 2002. He also serves as Fire Inspector for the city. Willie is
married with 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
During Willie's term as Chief he has supervised the opening of a new
fire station, added 2 new pumpers, 1 aerial truck and emergency
response vehicle. The city has added additional fireman, started a
First Responder Program and now has an intense fire fighter training
program going on with a certified state instructor in the department.
He has Fire Fighter, Hazmat Technician, Vehicle Extrication, First
Responder, Building Inspector, Fire Inspector and International
Building Codes Inspector certifications. He has been a fire fighter
since 1979 starting as a volunteer with the Harriman Fire Department.
He is now serving as Chairman of the East Tennessee Regional Council of
Fire Chiefs.
